San Francisco IRL
Where to meet people in San Francisco
A weekly schedule for single men who want to meet people in person in San Francisco — run clubs, yoga, pub quizzes, markets, wine bars and structured socials. No cold pickup.
Recurring communities beat one-off nights. Thursday options overlap — pick one, don't chase all. Check Instagram, Meetup or the org's site before you go.
Monday
Ease into the week
5 stops
- Morning
Hot 8 Yoga — Marina
Chestnut St, Marina
Heated power/sculpt classes with a young, female-heavy crowd. The 7-days-for-the-price-of-one intro deal lets you sample a full week. Best gender ratio of any fitness option in the neighborhood.
- Daytime
Groundfloor
455 Valencia St, Mission (also North Beach)
A membership "friendship club" that pairs co-working with shared lunches, neighborhood walks and member events. Members see each other repeatedly, so intros happen over weeks. One visit does little.
- 6:30 PM
★Marina Run Club — Track Night
Kezar Stadium, 755 Stanyan St
Over 6,000 members, majority 20s–30s, meeting 5+ times a week; ~150 turn out to typical runs. Despite the name it pulls from across the city, and the community spills into food, pets, pickleball, and more. The single strongest recurring option in SF.
- 7:15 PM
SF Pub Quiz — The Sycamore
2140 Mission St, Mission
The organizer places solo arrivals directly onto pickup teams — which removes the whole problem of everyone else showing up with a group. Arrive before start and say you need a team.
- Evening
Fig & Thistle
313 Ivy St, Hayes Valley
Tiny, low-lit natural-wine bar where you're shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers. Low-key Monday warm-up in SF's most walkable wine-bar cluster. Sit at the bar. Check ahead — recently closed for a remodel.
Tuesday
Run → yoga → games
5 stops
- 6:28 AM
November Project SF
Kezar Stadium
Free, no-signup morning workout — hugs, cheers, all levels, reliably young crowd. More fitness-community than drinks-social, but an easy first hello. Marina Run Club also runs a 7 AM Tuesday loop from Marina Green if you'd rather run than lift.
- Daytime
Ritual Coffee Roasters
1026 Valencia St, Mission
Godfather of SF third-wave coffee; the Valencia flagship is a Mission social spine. Grab a communal seat rather than a headphones-on solo table.
- 6:15 PM
Grace Cathedral Yoga
1100 California St, Nob Hill
A large all-levels class held inside the cathedral, usually with live music. Probably the best male-to-female ratio on this list. Don't interrupt anyone mid-practice — arrive early, stay after, become a regular.
- 6:30 PM
Run Club SF — Tuesday run
Golden Gate Park
"A social club with a running problem" — beginner-friendly (~12:00/mile) with a casual post-run social. Choose over Marina Run Club when GGP is closer or you want a slightly more running-focused group. Pick this or yoga — they overlap.
- 7:30 PM
Board Game Night — The Detour
2200 Market St, Castro
A game host breaks the ice by guiding strangers through short, easy games — far better for showing up alone than wandering into a barcade. Bring a new player and they'll buy you a drink or snack.
Wednesday
Peak midweek social
5 stops
- Daytime
Salesforce Park rooftop classes
Salesforce Transit Center rooftop, SoMa
Free public fitness/wellness programming (yoga, dance fitness). More interactive than an after-work happy hour and draws surrounding offices. Check the current calendar — it rotates.
- 6:30–7:15 PM
Midnight Runners SF
Rotating start (recently Oracle Park; check Heylo)
Bootcamp run with a speaker blasting music and exercise stops to regroup and meet people, then a bar social after. Multiple pace groups, so more approachable than the ~6 miles suggests. The drinks afterward are the point — stay for them.
- 7:00 PM
★Timeleft dinner
Restaurant revealed the night before
Six personality-matched strangers, every Wednesday; the tables run heavily women and largely single, and groups often move to a bar after. The strongest structured option in this guide if you hate cold approaches. You pick neighborhood + price.
- 7:15 PM
SF Pub Quiz — The Willows
1582 Folsom St, SoMa
Same solo-friendly organizer as Monday's Sycamore quiz — ask to be added to a pickup team. Spend the night solving questions together, then suggest another drink once the group has rapport.
- Night
Bar Jabroni
698 Haight St, Lower Haight
Small wine bar with a walk-in bar area that The Infatuation literally calls "set up for a meet-cute." Squeeze in shoulder-to-shoulder at the bar. One of the best rooms in the city for going out alone.
Thursday
The heavy hitters — pick one, don't chase all
5 stops
- 5:30 PM
★Marina Run Club — evening run
Marina Green, Marina Blvd
The 5:30 PM run is the most useful MRC slot for a normal work schedule and generates the most post-run socializing. Attend repeatedly and join the community chats rather than treating one run as a dating event. (Also a 7 AM option.)
- Daytime
Ferry Plaza Farmers Market (Thursday)
1 Ferry Building, Embarcadero
Smaller weekday version of the Saturday market — good for low-pressure situational conversation (ask what to buy, what a stall recommends). Easier to navigate than the Saturday crush.
- 6:00–10:00 PM
California Academy of Sciences — NightLife
55 Music Concourse Dr, Golden Gate Park
The Academy becomes an adults-only evening with drinks, exhibits, talks, and rotating themes; people expect a social atmosphere and circulate. Easiest with one sociable friend. Exploratorium After Dark (Pier 15) is the interactive-exhibit alternative — do one, not both.
- 7:30 PM
Skip the Small Talk
Rotating SF venues
Psychology-based guided conversation prompts in structured rounds — you never approach anyone cold, and it's built for solo attendees. Thursday-branded singles events also run nearly every week — buy early when one looks good.
- Night
Trick Dog
3010 20th St, Mission
Nationally ranked cocktail bar, communal energy, small enough to end up talking to the next stool over. Thursday is peak in the Mission.
Friday
Active → market → speakeasy
5 stops
- Late afternoon
Dogpatch Boulders
2573 3rd St, Dogpatch
Bouldering is inherently social — strangers work the same "problems" together — and the ratio beats most gyms. Climb, then head out for drinks.
- 5:00–10:00 PM
Fort Mason Night Market
Fort Mason Center, 2 Marina Blvd
Monthly Friday markets with food, crafts, workshops, music, and a big circulating crowd. Work the workshops and vendor stalls rather than standing in the middle. Check dates — it's not every Friday.
- Evening
Speed dating — SpeedSanFrancisco / DateFaster
Blackbird, 2124 Market St (and rotating)
8–12 structured mini-dates in one night, matches delivered same evening; book the right age bracket (24–38, 32–44, etc.) and confirm the venue.
- Happy hour
High Treason
443 Clement St, Inner Richmond
Wine-and-vinyl bar full of neighborhood regulars — lively without being a club, so you can talk without shouting. Sit near the bar or the record selection. Geelou in the Marina is the livelier live-jazz-and-pool alternative.
- Night
Bourbon & Branch
501 Jones St, Tenderloin
Prohibition-era speakeasy with a strict no-phone policy that forces face-to-face conversation; reservation + password required. Open 7 nights.
Saturday
Active day → social night
5 stops
- 8:00 AM
★Marina Run Club — Saturday long run
Marina Green, Marina Blvd
The club's largest, most social session; no work pressure, so coffee or breakfast after is plausible. Best overall combination of scale, repeat attendance, and people open to new friends. We're Not Really Runners meets 9:30 AM at Haus Coffee for a beginner/social-first alternative.
- 8:00 AM–2:00 PM
Ferry Plaza Farmers Market
1 Ferry Building, Embarcadero
SF's biggest, busiest market. Go later morning, browse prepared-food stalls, sit in a communal area. Secondary option — interactions are brief and many attend in pairs — but strong once you're a regular. For brunch instead: Rose's Cafe, 2298 Union St.
- Afternoon
18 Reasons / Civic Kitchen / Clayroom
18 Reasons (3674 18th St), Civic Kitchen, Clayroom
Multiweek courses beat one-nighters because the same people return. Cooking and ceramics tend to draw a more balanced or female-skewed crowd than technical meetups. Book ahead.
- Afternoon
Volo Sports — kickball + flip cup
Leagues across Mission, SoMa, Marina, Fillmore, North Beach
Sign up solo as a free agent, get placed on a coed team, end games at the sponsor bar for flip cup. One of the most popular ways to meet people in SF — and season-long, so you see the same faces weekly.
- 9:30 PM–midnight
April Jean + North Beach crawl
1371 Grant Ave, North Beach
Compact cocktail bar where the standing crowd and lines make interaction easy. North Beach is back to being one of SF's busiest late-night districts — the most street life after 10 PM.
Sunday
Brunch → community → chill
5 stops
- 10:00 AM
Slow Runners Club
Panhandle (Baker & Oak), Golden Gate Park
Relaxed 5K that explicitly welcomes 10–15 min/mile paces — for people who care more about conversation than performance, with optional coffee after. Alts: Golden Gate Running Club from Crissy Field; Running Wylder's Slow Jam Sundays from 1354 Castro St.
- 9:30 AM–1:30 PM
Fort Mason Farmers Market
Fort Mason Center, 2 Marina Blvd
Smaller and less touristy than Ferry Plaza — so repeat recognition actually works. Combine with a walk along Marina Green.
- Afternoon
The Commons
540 Laguna St, Hayes Valley
A "fourth space" pairing co-working with shared lunches, salons, book clubs, board games, potlucks, and workshops. Weekdays are membership; it opens to the public on set days. The best non-bar option for building a mixed social circle through consistent participation.
- Afternoon–early eve
Zeitgeist
199 Valencia St, Mission
Big outdoor patio with communal picnic tables — shared seating makes talking to the next group far easier than a room of private two-tops. Sunday afternoon beats Friday-night chaos for conversation. Wine instead? Birba in Hayes Valley.
- Evening
Gist IRL / Silent Book Club
Rotating SF venues
Gist runs 20s–30s socials that open with guided one-on-ones before a group activity — prioritize its structured-intro events. Silent Book Club (which started in SF) is the slower, introvert-friendly alternative: bring a book, socialize, read, socialize.
