Ratios compare population counts by sex. They don’t reflect relationship status or gender identity. The table’s filters and modeled singles scenario don’t apply to these maps.
How the district estimates were made
District values are modeled 2025 ratios drawn on Datawrapper’s 2026 congressional district boundaries; they are not official Census district estimates. They start from 2020–2024 American Community Survey five-year estimates of men and women aged 20–34 (table B01001), calibrated to the direct 2025 state age-and-sex totals from the Census Population Estimates Program (opens in a new tab).
Each census tract is split among the districts it overlaps in proportion to area, assuming residents are spread evenly across the tract. Within each state, the male and female district totals are then scaled separately to match the 2025 state estimates and rounded so they add up exactly. See the 2024 ACS five-year release (opens in a new tab).
Area weighting can’t capture where people cluster within a tract, so treat district values as approximations. D.C. is excluded because the map covers the 435 voting districts.
